Meaning of Jigsaw

Jigsaw strategy is a cooperative learning strategy that helps students with their reading comprehension. It is a multi-step strategy that involves the use of home groups and temporal expert groups.

These enables each students of a home group to specialize in one aspect of a topic after which each student from each home groups with similar aspect will form a temporal expert groups to become expert in that aspect of the topic then returning to their respective home groups to share their knowledge on what they have learnt.

This is a method of organizing classroom activity that makes students dependent on each other to succeed.

Steps Involved In Jigsaw Strategy

  1. The teacher group the class into 3 – 5 home groups made up of 3 or 5 students depending on the task.
  2. The students start in their respective home groups
  3. Each student in their respective home groups has different subtopic of the main topic.
  4. The teacher allows adequate time for students to study their learning materials
  5. Each student in their home groups will study his/her subtopic individually. The teacher monitors the progress of the students and assist students having difficulties
  6. Students with the same subtopic from different home groups will come together to form a temporal expert groups.
  7. The teacher gives adequate time for students in expert groups to share their knowledge or findings together
  8. In each expert groups, each student teach and share his/he knowledge of what he/she has learnt in order for all of them to become experts in that subtopic.
  9. The expert groups break apart and the students return to their respective home groups sharing together what they have learnt.
  10. The teacher brings all the students together and ask questions on the topic.

Pandering: It is driven by evaluator to receive more business client. We can say it is just like packaging.

Evaluation by Pretext: Here the client has a hidden agenda of which the evaluator is unaware of. The client only hides under the guise of evaluation just to achieve his/her aim.

Pseudo evaluation tends to over generalize particularly negative findings, or even falsify some findings or conclusions from an evaluation. This type of evaluation should not be an acceptable practice.
