Damaury Mikula, 18, was detained on Friday after reportedly breaking a red light and leading Florida Highway Patrol authorities on a high-speed chase of more than 100 mph.

According to the Florida Highway Police, Mikula began conducting a “burnout” and burning the tires of a Dodge Challenger next to a patrol car stationed at the intersection of State Road 54 and Sunlake Boulevard in Pasco County about 10:30 a.m. Mikula then allegedly ran a red light and rushed away, according to troopers.

Mikula, who claims to make $400,000-$500,000 from social media, allegedly did not pull over when the trooper activated his lights and siren and continued driving as he entered into a residential neighborhood off Ballantrae Boulevard near State Road 54, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The trooper proceeded to Mikula’s residence after identifying him as the car’s driver. Mikula was apprehended when he answered the door.

According to FHP, Mikula informed troopers the Dodge Challenger was parked in the garage and given permission for it to be towed. Mikula told troopers he was the only one in the car and knew the trooper was going to pull him over, but he believed it would be good to speed away if he got away with it while on his way to jail and after being read his Miranda rights.

Mikula informed troopers that in his view, he is young, wealthy, owns a fast automobile, and is free to do anything he wants. According to troopers, he eventually recognized that was a terrible way of thinking and a bad way of living. Mikula went on to say that he only wanted to do something enjoyable for three seconds and that it cost him money.

Mikula allegedly informed troopers that he intended to jump onto the freeway to evade the police car, but that he was afraid of getting into additional problems. Mikula was brought without incident to the Pasco County Jail. Mikula was charged with fleeing/eluding police with reckless driving, reckless driving, and racing on a highway, according to booking records. He was freed Saturday morning after bonding out.
