Old Dominion University ousted professor who said it is not ‘immoral’ to be sexually attracted to children. Earlier, Old Dominion University professor Allyn Walker came under fire after making the controversial claim that “adults who are attracted to kids are not immoral.”

Allyn Walker authored a book onauthored a book on people who are attracted to minors, a group that he says is misunderstood and needs to be de-stigmatized. Walker is an Old Dominion University assistant professor and the author of “A Long, Dark Shadow: Minor-Attracted People and Their Pursuit of Dignity.”

In response to backlash from students, the university has made a move to keep its reputation by placing Allyn Walker on administrative leave, effective immediately, according to the statement released Tuesday by the University board.

The statement:

Old Dominion University has placed Dr. Allyn Walker on administrative leave, effective immediately, from their position as assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice. Reactions to Dr. Walker’s research and book have led to concerns for their safety and that of the campus.

Furthermore, the controversy over Dr.Walker’s research has disrupted the campus and community environment and is interfering with the institution’s mission of teaching and learning. “I want to state in the strongest terms possible that child sexual abuse is morally wrong and has no place in our society,” said ODU President Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D. “This is a challenging time for our University, but I am confident that we will come together and move forward as a Monarch family.”

The actions we are taking today are motivated by our obligation to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment for our students, faculty, and staff.

After the controversial comments, the sociology professor fell out of favour with the students. “Knowing that someone on campus is like that makes me feel uneasy,” Jaelan Jackson said. “I don’t believe that reflects negatively on the school,” Jonathan Mukmuye continued, “but I do think it’s strange that we have a professor who thinks that.” “I believe it has more to do with the individual than it does with the university,” Nick Fehrer added.
