Groom steps out to enjoy some fresh air, gets robbed during his wedding reception. Philadelphia police are searching for two men after they allegedly robbed a groom of his Rolex watch during his wedding reception on Saturday evening.
At about 11:45 p.m. on South 3rd St. in the Old Town district, the suspects who exited a sport utility vehicle approached the victim with guns and demanded his Rolex. The suspects then fled northbound on 3rd Street in their vehicle.
There were no injuries sustained by the victim. According to the police, the groom stepped out to enjoy some fresh air at his wedding reception when the robbery occurred. The Philadelphia Police Department has begun posting videos of robbery and burglary suspects on social media sites.
Authorities told CBS3 that a series of thefts in upscale neighborhoods, including the one in which the groom was involved, are linked. Thieves have been on the lookout for opportunities to take advantage of innocent people, whether they are alone or in a group.
The city’s recent crime reports have gotten global attention. So far in 2021, the Philadelphia Police Department has reported 521 homicides, a 13% rise over 2020 and the city’s highest number of killings since at least 2007.
Over the last year, the number of shooting incidents has increased by 4.4 percent and the number of shooting victims has increased by about 3%.
However, the city’s overall violent crime rate is down roughly 3% year over year, with armed robberies – which have jumped 27% since 2020 – being the only other violent crime besides homicide that has increased in 2021.
Since last year, the number of rapes, unarmed robberies and serious assaults has declined. Property crime has increased by 5% year over year.
