Suspect knocks police officer unconscious with blows during booking after being backed to a corner.
A suspect severely beat and knocked a Miami-Dade police officer unconscious in the department headquarters Tuesday night while booking him into jail, according to authorities.
According to police, around 7:45 p.m., the detainee was being fingerprinted when the unnamed officer gave verbal directives, which were ignored. The suspect gets backed into a corner inside a room as he begins to struggle.
Nestor Rodriguez, 32, was identified as the inmate who gave the officer the beating of his life.
According to video footage provided by officials, a fight ensues during the incident and the suspect delivers numerous hits to the officer’s head and body. The cop collapsed to the ground at one point and continued to endure blows while unconscious.
A civilian employee dressed in a “forensics” shirt enters after a brief wait to help the cop. The brawl ultimately spills out into the room. Rodriguez is down on the floor and backup cops arrive to handcuff him using zip ties.
In a statement, Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo Ramirez stated “the continuous aggression against our law enforcement personnel is intolerable and will not be accepted.” “We must unite as a community to safeguard our police officers and our community from those who choose to commit heinous attacks.”
